Thanks to the beautiful design by Jantijn van den Heuvel BNO and our expertise, this store interior has become a great success.
The Albert Heijn store in Made has been transformed into a great success thanks to the beautiful design by Jantijn van den Heuvel BNO and our expertise.
Boer & Van Wijk’s extensive experience in store interiors is well known. While we often work on point-of-sale materials, which are temporary, sometimes we are involved in complete interior projects. The renovation of the central hall at AH Made (franchise number 8791) is a prime example, highlighted here due to the exceptional design by Jantijn van den Heuvel BNO and the unique role this supermarket plays in the local community.
The AH store in Made has a strong local character, with in-store outlets of Gall & Gall and Etos, creating a full shopping experience under one roof. The renovation emphasized the store’s connection with the village: the hall became a central space with dedicated entrances for the three shops. Each week, a local entrepreneur is given a stall to introduce regional products to shoppers. This “market square” was designed to capture and reflect the unique atmosphere of Made.
Jantijn van den Heuvel’s design reflects this concept, as evidenced by the floor plan drawings and the illustration of a street in Made from the 1950s. All elements were produced on an enormous scale. Together with the store name, they form an entire upper wall in the central hall, measuring 32 meters in length.
We printed the complete design on self-adhesive polymer vinyl with a gray backing to prevent any potential show-through and finished it with a matte laminate for long-lasting durability. The large size and elevated position required the use of aerial work platforms during installation.
Behind the area for shopping carts, an image of several staff members was installed, fully in line with the upper wall design and covering the entire wall. Walls like these must meet high durability standards due to physical impacts from carts. Fortunately, we have extensive experience with this from our work in hospitals, where beds are regularly moved around.
Without hesitation, we printed the image on 1 mm Decoprint SPM from Gerflor, in mirror image. Once installed, the image was effectively protected against impacts from shopping carts—let’s call it “cart-proof.”
A notable feature is the display case showcasing the well-deserved awards this AH (franchise) store has received.
Of course, you want to know what we produce on a daily basis: how we do it, and with which machines and materials. In these blogs, we showcase this daily, highly varied work, as well as the choices we make and the advice we provide along the way.
