PMMA – Acrylic
Acrylic, also known as Altuglas, Plexiglas, or Perspex, is 25 times stronger than glass of the same thickness, making it far less likely to break. Acrylic is also half the weight of glass, allowing it to be used safely and sustainably.
Acrylic has a light transmittance of 92%, letting through even more light than glass. It is weather-resistant, does not yellow, retains its color, and has a long lifespan.

Both cast and extruded (XT) acrylic can be easily sawed, milled, laser-cut, bent, polished, and glued. XT acrylic is well suited for thermoforming but is slightly less stress-free than cast acrylic. The material has also been used to create “sneeze guards” to protect employees and customers from exposure to the coronavirus.
